and advancement of cardiovascular medicine.
Woosim is a non-profit corporation established in 2012 in accordance with Article 32 of the Civil Act for the purpose of contributing to the promotion of national health and advancement of cardiovascular medicine.
By recruiting and supporting talented people, we provide the latest medical expertise for health professionals engaged in cardiovascular medicine, and support academic, educational, research, and prevention activities related to cardiovascular disease.
In order to promote professionalism and operational efficiency and fairness, the board of directors was composed of professors of medicine, law and humanities, lawyers, accountants, and former civil servants at the deputy director level or higher. The board works to plan, operate, and supervise all academic and research support provided by Woosim. The first chairman of the board was Professor Jung Chae Kang, former president of Chonnam National University, and the current third chairman is Professor Myung Ho Jeong of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Chonnam National University Hospital. Woosim is made up of a board of directors and 200 ordinary members.
We host about 9 symposiums per year including Clinical Cardiology Symposium, Cardiovascular Imaging Symposium, Chonnam Cardiac Pacing, Gwangju Electrocardiogram Symposium, Coronary Imaging Symposium, Gwangju International Interventional Cardiology Symposium, Gwangju-Boston Joint Cardiology Symposium, International Aging Symposium, and Deep Brain Rehabilitation Center Symposium. At international conferences, renowned cardiologists from more than 18 countries around the world are invited to give lectures and perform live procedures. Furthermore, we are conducting 15 international clinical trials as well as basic research on novel cardiovascular therapeutics in collaboration with the US and countries in Europe. We aim to raise the status of cardiovascular research and treatment we provide on the regional and national scale by sharing recent changes and developments in the field of cardiovascular medicine, from basic research to the latest clinical therapeutics. All the members including the board of directors are striving to achieve greater progress in the future.
In order to provide benefits to society in general, we also publish booklets on cardiovascular disease for medical professionals and the general public. More than 20 lectures on health education and medical training sessions are provided for the public and health care workers.
